Interview with Author Roy Huff

Today i’m pleased to welcome Roy Huff to Morphys’ Book Blog who has kindly agreed to do an interview with us.

How did you get into writing?

I started writing as part of academic essays for college. Having completed 5 degrees, I have spent a significant amount of time working on mainly non fiction and technical writing. This allowed me to get comfortable writing in length and duration, which I later incorporated into my fiction. My first book started off as a creative writing paper for an English class, which later became chapter 1 of Everville: The First Pillar.

What inspired you to write the Everville series?

The initial idea was from a college English paper, but I have been influenced by a history of sci-fi fantasy movies, television, and books.

Do you plan the ending before-hand or does it develop as you write?

I have a general idea that usually develops early on, but I write in the details as I go.

Who was your favourite character to write and why?

I like both the main character, Owen Sage, and The Keeper. The Keeper’s role allows me to interject philosophy, which is an interest of mine.

If made into a film what would be your dream cast?

I’ve said this before, but I’d love to have Peter Jackson direct with Jennifer Lawrence as one of the female leads. Owen Sage would likely be strong but unknown actor.

What genres do you prefer to read?

I like non fiction, science, as well as biographies and sci-fi/fantasy.

Who are your favourite authors?

I like Tolkien, Rowling, Orwell, as well as classic authors such as Shakespeare, Longfellow, and the like.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I like traveling, hiking, movies, eating out, trying new things, and numerous other activities.

What are you working on now?

I’m hoping to be finished with the second book, Everville: The City of Worms, the end of this month.

If you had to describe yourself in three words what would they be?

Easygoing, optimistic, and open-minded.

If you could have one superpower what would it be and why?

The power to control time because it is the best possible power. I could live forever, travel back and forth, freeze time, and do all sorts of cool stuff.

Thanks for stopping by Roy =)
