Synopsis
Best friends since birth, Brooke Reid and Savannah Prescott, spend their days working together at top fashion magazine Hourglass, while enjoying all that the Denver nightlife has to offer – but sharing a man – no way.
One of Denver’s most eligible bachelors, Luke Wellington, can have any woman he wants and he knows it. Putting his player skills to the test, he destroys a friendship and makes two women fall in love with him as he sits back and enjoys the best of both worlds.
Brooke Reid is a woman looking for her happily ever after, and the day she literally ran in to him, she thought she’d found it. Charming, charismatic, a true gentleman – what more could she ask for? Things are going perfectly until her best friend struts in the elevator and claimed his lips right in front of her.
Savannah Prescott is interested in one thing, having a good time with every single man Denver has to offer. Being tied down is too much of a bore for her free spirited ways. Or so she thinks, but when her best friend starts dating her Friday night fling, she realizes she may be ready to turn in her game card and settle down into a real relationship.
When both girls come to the realisation that they are after the same man, it means all-out war. Best friends until the end, or at least until him.

Excerpt
Finally! I thought to myself, taking Luke’s face between the palms of my hands and laying an earth shattering kiss on him right in the elevator for my best friend to see. “I’ve been dying to introduce you to my…” Releasing Luke’s face I looked to my left and then to my right. “Where in the hell did she go?”
Glancing back at Luke’s panic-stricken face, I tried to figure out why Brooke had bolted. What in the hell is wrong with that woman? Wrapping my arms around Luke’s neck, I kissed his cheek. “You look like you’ve just seen a ghost. What’s wrong?” As he was shaking his head no, I pulled my arms from around his neck and placed them at my side.
“Nothing, today is just really busy. Do you know by chance where her office is?”
Confused, I scrunched my eyes together. “Who, Brooke?” Luke nodded. “Well of course I do, Luke, that’s my best friend, the one I’ve been dying to introduce you to.”
His face turned white as a sheet. “Shit” he mumbled under his breath.
I stepped out of the elevator on the ninth floor and walked with Luke toward our parking spaces, he was clearly shaken as beads of sweat were now lining his hairline. “Luke, you’re sweating and I’m not even wearing a revealing top, are you sure you’re okay?” He nodded again. What is wrong with everyone today? I’m dealing with Brooke’s disappearing act, and Luke seems to have swallowed his tongue. “You better be because I’m not in the mood for another rain check tonight.”
Winking at him, I hopped into my car and then took off for my photo shoot. I picked up my phone to dial Brooke as I zoomed through traffic. Her cell went straight to voice mail, so I called the office and got the same thing, voice mail. Trying her cell one more time only to be dumped into her voice mail box for the third time, I conceded. “Brooke, what happened to you in the elevator? I wanted to introduce you to Luke. Isn’t he gorgeous? I’ll be out at a shoot all day, so we’ll have to catch up later. In the meantime, Google Lucas Wellington, his pictures are to die for, but nothing compares to the body under those clothes, and most importantly, his huge you know what! Let’s do a quick dinner tonight, my place. I’ll pick up takeout on the way home, and we’ll have Carl sneak us into your new condo for a tour. We’ll have to wrap up early though; I’m planning on having Luke as my dessert. Love you.” After I hung up, I cranked my music up as loud as it would go and sang along with Katy Perry and Juicy J, making up my own lyrics to their chart topper, Dark Horse. “Her love is like a drug, Luke was tryna hit it and quit it. But Savannah is so dope Luke messed around and got addicted”.

Synopsis
Sex. Betrayal. Forbidden Love. Lawn Boy.

I’m not a catch, I’m not even certain I’m what they’d call ‘mentally stable,’ not anymore. Too much has happened too fast and it ripped my soul in half. I’m alone, with a plastic stick in my hand that says the one word we’d been so eager to see.

Pregnant.

Lucky in love once is a miracle, but I lost him, and this baby is all I have left. My life turned to ash in a blink and there’s nothing I can do about it.

Years pass and I’m still here, but it doesn’t feel like it, not until the lawn guy, Daniel Clemment, checks me out. Me. A yoga-panting, pony tailing, frumpy-butt, frizzy mommy who’s covered in whatever the baby tossed on me at lunch.

Daniel’s dark eyes linger too long, as if he likes what he sees. I’m shocked and flattered, but he’s too young. The age gap between us is over a decade, but that doesn’t stop him. If I sleep with him everyone will think I’ve lost my mind. Maybe I have, because everyday that I see Dan’s sexy, toned body glistening in the sunlight, I consider feeling him pressed against me, naked. The few times his fingers grazed my skin were heaven, but once the clothes come off–he’s a god and I’m… me.

I’ve been alone for so long. Surely one kiss won’t hurt anything, one taste of his mouth should be harmless. Things don’t have to go that far, but I’m wrong.

Love only comes around once in a lifetime. Only fools think otherwise, and I’m the biggest fool of them all.

Genevieve loses her husband on deployment only to find out she is pregnant. Sworn off love Gen decides to raise baby CJ on her own. Being a single mum is hard, so is fighting attraction, she can tell you that! Second Chances is a story about loss, heartbreak, difficult times, love lost & love found.

I enjoyed Second Chances, H.M Ward and Stacey are talented authors. They tell a story that is believable, Gen’s story probably happens a lot more than people think. I can’t imagine losing your husband on deployment. My dad was in the army and got deployed to Afghanistan along with other places, it was scary knowing he was in danger and could be hurt at any moment.

I felt sorry for Gen, losing her husband after finding out she was pregnant must have been horrific, my heart went out to her. She is strong though, instead of breaking down and asking people for help she soldiered on and brought up CJ on her own, definitely a strong-minded woman. I couldn’t put my finger on it but there was something about her that bugged me, maybe it was nothing but I just didn’t love her, she was okay, but nothing special.

Daniel the lawn boy is awesome! He’s so caring and thoughtful, he’s suffered some bad times but is still his own person when he could have just given in and done what was expected of him, I salute him. I loved how he was with CJ too, he’s only 22 but seems much older and of course he’s hot too ;). I couldn’t fault him at all, he was my favourite character in the book.

Second Chances had me crying after only a few pages, that’s hard to do. I usually don’t cry until I’ve been dragged into the story but it was almost instantly with this one, that’s how powerful the writing is. If you’re a fan of contemporary romance and don’t mind shedding a few tears you should read it.

Synopsis
“Nana’s Rules to Live By”

Gentlemen should always open the door for a lady.

I was busy and I didn’t have time for a vacation, let alone a weekend away. When a frantic phone call from an old neighbor brought me to my grandmother’s summer home, I wasn’t prepared for an extended stay. And I especially wasn’t prepared for the man holding the door open to the radio repair shop who made a lasting first impression.

In attempts at a relationship, a gentleman should always make the first move.

Calling Jess Carter’s clenched jaw and denim-colored eyes part of his standoffish manner was an understatement. His brooding exterior bordered on being downright rude. From the moment I bumped into him, quite literally, our lives began to intertwine in a way that made me question what I wanted.

Children should be seen and not heard.

Jess had secrets and I was determined to get to the bottom of them. Even he didn’t know the solutions to all his problems, I wanted to help. In doing so, I might have drawn too close to the truth, forcing Jess to risk something he wasn’t sure he could chance again. I had decisions to make for myself and it’s hard to know whose advice to take when so many questions remain unanswered.

Review
Emily returns to her grandmothers home in a little town after receiving a worried phone call. She was only supposed to stay for a few days, long enough to get things straightened out when she finds herself having to stay longer. Emily got a lot more than she bargained for, she never expected a man like Jess to step into her life and turn it upside down.

I’m a mess, Sound Advice for me was a big emotional rollercoaster. It had so much depth, mixed with many emotions I felt right down to my bones. It just sucks you in until you feel everything the characters do. The writing was great and the storyline was creative. A real life fairy tale. If you like fairy tales and happily ever afters you’ll love this one.

I don’t want to go into too much detail as the littles thing could spoil it and I really don’t want to do that. You need to be able to experience the whole book without knowing anything going in. I think that’s part of why I enjoyed it so much, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t read any reviews before reading it and I’m glad as think it would have spoiled it for me.

All the characters were lovable. They were easy to like and all gave something to the story, they were all important. When so many different characters are involved sometimes it’s hard to feel connected but you do, with each and every one.

Favourites, Katie was definitely my fav, I couldn’t help but fall in love with her. I liked Sue Carpenter too, she was a big help to Emily and just a generally nice person. Jess Carter was swoon worthy but moody as hell which of course made it more fun.

Sound Advice is a story of love, power, happiness, grief and magic. If you read romance you’ll love this. I wish there was more to it, especially towards the end. I wasn’t ready to let Emily and Jess go.

Tyler’s hands slide to my hips, and my breath catches. He pulls me against him, my rear pressed into his crotch. It’s a tiny movement, and the room’s dim enough that nobody seems to notice. His body is hard where I’m soft, and I clench my hands to keep from touching him.

His hand twists in my hair, and he gently tugs my head back until his lips are almost touching my ear. His hot breath shudders against my skin. “Because you’ve got chocolate hair and chocolate eyes and a creamy middle I want to delve my tongue into.”

Excerpt:

I glance in, but the box is dark inside all of the tissue paper. My hands retrieve the first item. “Buckeyes!” I exclaim.

“I can see why she’s your best friend.” Dean leans on one elbow, watching me explore the contents one by one.

I reach in, continuing to pull out items—a black hair scarf with cherries, a pair of earrings from one of my favorite local jewelry designers in Cincinnati, Abbi Glines’s newest steamy romance. My cheeks go hot as Dean sees the cover, lifting his eyebrows.

“Well, I think that’s it,” I say, lifting the box, the sound of something shifting inside catching my attention. “Oh, there’s something else.”
I reach in, and as I do, I can feel Dean’s eyes locked on me. I feel something long and cool slip into my hand. Locking my fingers around it, I let the box fall away. Instantly, I see Dean straighten up, a half-cocked grin on his face.

Much to my horror, I look down to see a pink rubber penis-shaped device in my hand. I freeze, but my cheeks are on fire. All I can think about is the different ways I am going to torture Monica before I kill her.

“I can explain,” I begin. I’ll tell him she’s crazy—like actually certifiable.

He’s still grinning at me as he gives me a slight nod. He closes the gap between us even more.

“You know, I can help with that,” he offers, and I can’t help but wonder if he’s serious, or perhaps maybe I’m wishing.

“You think I’m that easy?” I hit the ball squarely back to him. I consider licking my lips, but worry that may be over the top. I’m looking directly at him, and damn, he’s incredible.

“A guy can hope.” He pauses, playfully lifting an eyebrow. “Can’t he?”
I grin. In fact, I can’t do anything but grin. He moves closer, and I glance down, realizing I’m still holding the device. My breath hitches, but he still moves closer. He’s facing me, never moving those gorgeous blue eyes away from me. He slides his arm around my waist, and as he presses himself against me, I’m sure I can feel an erection. This surprises me, and my hand releases the dildo, which falls to the floor with a thud.

“What’s wrong? Can’t contain your excitement around me?” he whispers, his breath warm on my neck, just below my ear.
My mouth is watering, my heartbeat quickens, and my head is now spinning. I pull back, the distance giving me a slight bit of clarity. The idea of this kind of pleasure is tempting. The bulge in his jeans tells me he is interested.

In an attempt to casually conceal the pink rubber shaft, I use the toe of my platform sandals to kick it under a nearby chair. Dean cocks a brow, his face shifts, and he laughs softly.

“What?” I shrug innocently.

“Did you just kick a dick under a chair?” He’s still laughing.

“Watch it, or I might make a habit of it.”

“Ouch,” he hisses, then winces, grabbing himself as if he were imagining the attack.

My eyes dart past his shoulder, where Storm is coming up the stairs. She has on her headphones, staring at the face of her phone. I nod my head at Dean, indicating we’re no longer alone. I shift, moving to walk past him. He grabs my hip, pulling me into his grasp.

“We’ll continue this later,” he promises. He takes my hand and leads me past Storm and out of the bus without a word. I wonder if she can tell what had been transpiring from the look on my face.

As we move around the side of the bus, I feel his hand shift to the small of my back. It’s like he knows all the places to touch me to drive me absolutely insane.

Fast-forward four years and Bryce is back in Jonesville and once again he and Lexi cross paths. Only he’s no longer the seemingly perfect man and Lexi’s no longer the quiet girl.

He’s surrounded with everything that is important to him; a great relationship with his brother, Alex, a bar he is about to re-open, and most importantly, he has control of his life and his dreams. Twelve years of therapy has failed to help her, so why should they be any different?
Jack sees just how beautiful and important Rose is, but convincing her of that means putting his heart on the line, something he isn’t sure he can do. He can’t deny his feeling for Rose, but that doesn’t mean he has to act on them. And Jack isn’t the only one developing feelings for Rose.
Before Rose, Jack vowed he would never let himself fall in love again.

But sometimes, it’s losing control that makes you really see what’s really important in your life.

Review
The synopsis doesn’t give very much away does it? Not that I mind, I didn’t know what to expect and it was so exciting. See How She Runs was full of twists and turns, some expected, some definitely not! Life on the run sure doesn’t sound fun to me though.

Poor Izzy lost her parents at a young age and doesn’t let herself get close to anyone, the only exception being her best friend Kennan. Who of course turns out to be different than she first thought, full of secrets and an ASS! But we’ll get to him later. Izzy is awesome. Even though life has dealt her a really crappy hand she keeps her head on and soldiers on. Nothing seems to be able to break her, she’s so brave and determined. I really admired that about her and I just know she’s going to kick some serious butt.

Kennan is a sexy, six-foot-seven, charming dude who is the only person Izzy truly trusts. They have a special bond that’s unbreakable, and Kennan would do anything in his power to keep Izzy safe, even if it’s from herself. I hated him a teeny weeny bit at times for being secretive as you do but overall I just loved his character. He just doesn’t give up!

I have to quickly mention Ian and Molly too. I absolutely loved Ian, his fashion sense and attitude totally made me smile and Molly was pretty great too. She has a no bullsh*t attitude about her that you can’t help but think “HA, you just got told!”

There’s not a lot really that I can say about the baddy, I didn’t learn much about him other than he’s a greedy, backstabbing, lying, manipulative turnip who needed putting in his place. Grrrr… I really didn’t like Xavier at all, I wanted to claw his eyes out :(.

Overall I enjoyed See How She Runs. I feel as if things could have been explained better, the missing details meant I couldn’t quite pull myself into the story which is a real shame, with more depth this could have been a GREAT book. I’m looking forward to reading See How She Fights, book 2 in the series. I want to see Izzy open a can of whoop ass YEAHH!!

A NOTE FROM KELLY RISSER:

10% of July’s profits for Never Forgotten and Current Impressions will be donated to Susan G. Komen.

Never Forgotten is a fantasy novel, but it deals with a very real issue. Early in the story, Meara learns that her mother’s cancer has returned. While I’d rather tell you that I didn’t draw inspiration from personal experiences, the truth is, I did. Shortly before my husband and I got married, my mother-in-law (MIL) was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was hard to watch her fight for her life. Her hair fell out, and she became so thin. I remember hugging her and feeling every bone in her back. It was the first time I’d seen a human body in such a fragile state. My MIL had an amazingly positive outlook. She lived to find joyous moments in the ordinary. She kept a journal, traveled, and visited with friends. The cancer went into remission. Unfortunately, it returned five years later, this time in her abdomen and surrounding organs. With a diagnosis of six months to two years, she passed away within two months, just shy of her 60th birthday. Her name was Sharon.

Yes, Meara’s mom is named after her. It’s one small way for me to keep her memory alive. The other way I want to do this requires your help. We all know the statistics about breast cancer, but I want to stress the important role you play in your health. The year prior to her first diagnosis, my MIL had a mammogram and a spot showed in the screening. Her doctor told her it was small, probably nothing. He would follow up in twelve months. She took his word and waited. When she went in for the second mammogram, it had grown tremendously. A biopsy proved it was cancer. Had she pushed for a biopsy right away, she might still be here today. With a year to grow, the cancer moved into too many of her lymph nodes.

My message to women is this—if you are a man, please share this message with the women close to you: do regular self-exams, starting now. You’re never too young or too old. If you’re 40 years old or have a family history of cancer, get regular mammograms. Don’t be afraid to push for your health. If something doesn’t sound right or you have questions, speak up! Yes, doctors are professionals, but they’re human, too. We all make mistakes. Last, support cancer research. It will only be through research that we will ever find answers to fight this disease that takes so many.

ABOUT KELLY RISSER:

Kelly Risser knew at a young age what she wanted to be when she grew up. Unfortunately, Fairytale Princess was not a lucrative career. Leaving the castle and wand behind, she entered the world of creative business writing where she worked in advertising, marketing, and training at various companies.
She’s often found lamenting, “It’s hard to write when there’s so many good books to read!” So, when she’s not immersed in the middle of someone else’s fantasy world, she’s busy creating one of her own. This world is introduced in her first novel, Never Forgotten. Never Forgotten, a YA/NA Fantasy, will be released by Clean Teen Publishing in the Summer of 2014.
Kelly lives in Wisconsin with her husband and two children. They share their home with Clyde the Whoodle and a school of fish.
